Chihuahua: A Devoted and Loyal Pet

Chihuahua

Being the smallest of all breeds, the Chihuahua also holds the distinction of being the oldest breed in America and is named after the Chihuahua region of Mexico and with a very fine structure to their bones is also quite muscular. The owners of dogs of this breed of unique personality, very full of energy and also grace, having all along their fifteen years life – the longest life-span of any dog breeds – a human-like expression, are often caressing it “Chi”.

A Bold And Fearless Loyal Pet

The dogs of this breed are closely attached to their master from whom they solicitate a lot of attention and who consider them to be loyal and very devoted companions. The Chihuahua is very protective with its master and will guard him boldly and fearlessness from strangers to whom it is very suspicious, making a good watch dog though it may not seem so, due to its gentle as well as loving nature and good temper. In the proximity of their own breed they are very sociable but do not take kindly to other breeds and are also not ideally suited for children.

There are two varieties of Chihuahua, one having a long coat and another with short coat, but the dogs of both varieties have small size, large eyes and large, erect ears. A number of long-coat Chihuahuas do not have thick hair which is really very thin though long-coated Chihuahuas would be having dense and thick coats. This breed has a large variety of heights, though all of them are small dogs, only the weight and overall proportions beeing defined by standards.

Any size of house can be home for a small Chihuahua dog, which is alert and inteligent, has a strong personality and manifests devotion to its master, who cherish it. The character of Chihuahua is difficult, as it seems to be high-strung and, becose it attaches only to one person, to its master who offerd it training and company, it can turn jealous to his children. The Chihuahua is also clannish and likes only its own breed dogs and is brave creatures that are not afraid to accost larger animals even at the expense of sustaining injuries.

Due to the very long human selection, many of these dogs suffer with their teeth, of epilepsy and seizure disorders or when they are giving birth. In addition, it may also suffer from patella luxation which is very painful and also collapsing trachea and hydrocephalus, which means water in the brain.

Chihuahuas are choosy, they like to eat only the food they pick, and this means only good, nutritious food, of course according to their taste or cravings.

To describe a Chihuahua many use words like mini dog, pocket sized, tiny toy or teacup, and this shows how much they are cherished by their owners. Though Chihuahuas are noisy and aggressive to other breeds, for a loving master they are a loyal and devoted pet. All in all, if properly trained and socialized, this breed makes a very good and affectionate pet dog. One may want to learn more about the history and origin of the Chihuahua before purchasing it.
