Can Anyone Help Me in Regard to Flying With My 2 Chihuahuas as Carry Ons or Checked Baggage?

Does anyone have any advice or can tell me how difficult or easy the procedure is for checking my precious dogs as baggage? I have 2 chihuahuas and will be relocating to Ohio in February and want our trip to be a smooth one.

You will NOT be able to "carry-on" two! NOR can 2 adult dogs go in one crate!
Shipping is no big deal-all airlines have free 800 numbers to talk PROS!
Must have approved crates, absorbent bedding,2 "coop-cups" & a health cert from the vet, including rabies cert. Health certs are only good for ten days-plan accordingly.

You will have to check with the specific airline you are using on if they will allow 2 dogs in the same crate – usually the rule is puppies under a certain age. Will not allow 2 dogs as carryon.

If you are flying Continental – they do a great job flying dogs. Just used them 2 times in the last month. Used NW/Delta this summer on 2 different occasions – everything was just fine but they were a lot more expensive.

Best to call whatever airlines you are using.

If it isn’t too far, why not drive?

As for using the airlines to check the dogs as baggage, it’s a simple procedure for you.

Unless the Chi’s are puppies, you cannot fly both of them in one carrier for under the seat. They have to be put in 2 separarte carriers and only one pet per person. If you cannot get another person to go with you and carry on the 2nd Chi, then one of them has to ride in cargo.

And you need to make a reservation well in advance – the airlines only allow 2 pets on board.
