A LOT of spare time. Aquanting the puppy is most important. In the first week give him/her most attention possible.

shame on you. you should have done your research before you even thought about getting a puppy.

please please get your dog into obedience training as soon as she is old enough. if you don’t, he will be like any other nasty little chihuahua who thinks it is their job to bite you because their pack status is so elevated because they get carried around everywhere. make your dog be a dog. make him walk on a leash, work for his meals, and sleep in his bed.

1 pre pare and puppy proof your home:

wires plugs toxins plants valuables and being suck a small dog places it could get stuck in…

    2 comfurt:
set up a comfurt box for your pet put in an old towel or blanket a chewy and a teddy bear also if you can convince the breeder to let you have an old toy GREAT

    3 bonding:
the second you get that puppy make the bond make it devoted to you it will make training easyer and well you will have a bud for life

    4 food and water
well one thing for a puppy that is tuff i found is the switch from one food to the next… the food you have is probally fine but ya know i would ask for a baggy of old food that they are being givin and mix it in with the old food for now.

    5 introducing the new settings
bring it into every room its gonna be in and sit with it and let it explore and get used to the new settings of its life

    6 house breaking
its important to start house breaking right away but i would always suggest waiting it off untill puppy is completally farmiliar with its surroundings untill then take it out to the yard or in some cases to the litter box and wait for it to do its stuff

7 the last most important thing is to contact your friends new vet take it in to get checked up in about a week or so get it nuterd and get it its shots if it dont have them already … its better to know wer and who your vet is before your animal is even sick!

I do have to agree with mzbryana’s answer bring a living animal into your life takes careful consideration and preparation. Please enroll in puppy classes and obedience classes it is YOUR responsibility to mold your new pup into a well socialized member of society.

Go get a crate, dog bed, lots of puppy chew toys like nylabones, food and water bowls, wee wee pads, a way to confine her, leash, collar, a high quality puppy food with the first ingredient chicken, or beef no first ingreadient of chicken or beef by-product, puppy treats, some toys that she can snuggle up to, and sign up for puppy classes at your local petsmart. Good Luck. Also take the puppy to the vet within the first 48 hours. Put her on a monthy wormer and heartwormer.

I am getting mine this weekend too! A little brown one with a bandit mask. Any way the things I am getting for mine are:
A crate- for sleeping and if he can’t go where I go.
    A bed for the crate
puppy pads – they have something added to them that encourages the pup to pee on them
    chew toys
a stuffed toy and small blanket for cuddling

You should also take the pup to the vet ASAP to get his shots and they have a new thing out Revolution I think. It treats for fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, earmites, worms, and heartworms.

I like Purina Puppy Chow and give an endless supply the first few months and of course plenty of water. I also buy Nutravite vitamins for dogs.

Don’t forget treats, you can start training right away.

You might also get a bag to carry pup in but you definitely need a leash, collar (or harness is better), and tags.

You will also need a puppy shampoo
If you have carpet, Resolve carpet cleaner for accidents. You can also buy pet odor eliminators.

Keep pup social by exposing him to many different people and children and give lots of love and attention. Take him everywhere you can with you but if you would have to leave him in the car, consider leaving him at home. In TX it hits over 100 frequently and I wouldn’t leave my baby in that.

Good luck and enjoy your new friend!

Well first you need to get the food and water bowl. then get some toys so when you leave him alone he has something to do. then you should get him a collar and a clicker. a clicker is something that clicks. you might need it because if the puppy does something wrong then you can click it and he will stop whatever he is doing. then after that stuff you should get a kennal/cage. You should get this because when you are leaving then you can put it in there. Or when someone is coming over you could put it in there but I dont know why because it is so small. If it doesnt have that much fur then if you go to a pet store ot regular store you can get a little pet outfit.yYou should also get a bed so you can either put it in the kennal/cage or in your room where they usally go after they get use to your house and you. You should always watch it if a friend comes over and you want to keep it out or if someone is coming over like someone to install something.

I have 7 Chihuahuas. they are an anti-social animal if you let them. They will also attach to one person and "defend and protect" their person to the bitter end if need be. And I mean against animals and humans. I had to break a couple of my Chihuahuas because when people see them, they always have to pet them and those snarling little needle sharp teeth can do finger damage. Get training books or videos to train him/her or better yet obedience training would be good. Be consistent with it.
you’ll need a little bed for it-many people think it’s cute to sleep with it but if you roll on them at night you can squish it.

    You’ll need a light leash.
You’ll need a collar. (we used a cat collar for some of our pups with a little bell to know where they are. (and then you’ll still trip over it)

you’ll need a couple little dishes, one for food the other for water.
SOCIALIZE it or it will get MEAN. I often say that if these dogs were 80 to 100 lbs., instead of 3 to 6lbs. they would probably be BANNED from cities all across the country. And I also say that they were bred by crossing a rat with a piranha.
ALSO, Chihuahuas do not like cold- a small sweater or little take along blanket will be needed if you live in cooler parts.

you should take care of him and talk to him like u would to a baby. u should get him treats a nd toys, but not too many. reward him if he is good. if he is biting someone or doing bad, then dont. if u wanna teach him tricks, then u have to be patient. wash him at least 1nce a week if not, every other week

DONT GET CANNED FOOD!!! it is not good for ANY dog. U SHOULD TAKE HIM OUT W/ A LEASH AND DO NOT GET THOSE PUPPY PADS WHERE THEY PEE ON!!! IT DOES NOT WORK AND U SHOULD TRAIN IT BY SAYING NO IN A HARD VOICE. feed him every day 2 times and water until he runs out.

    hope this helps, GL

smallest puppy/cat kennal you can find, toybreed puppy food moisten it before youfeed if he is under 10wks try to find out what food breeder is using.start off kepping in kennal to help with house training this breed i notorious for hard house training mainly because their size they can hide and go everywhere. best ti feed once a day and dont leave food and water bowls oout put up after feed only feed when you have time to take him out15min after they eat untill you see them go if they dont go back inkennal for a while then back out side till they go .dont feed or water them before they go in cage in morning when you go to work/school then when you get home let out feed train then in house to run around .the cage is not cruel and does not hurt them but with your breed finding one small enough can be hard if its too big they will poop in it. it sounds cruell but if you stick with it fir two weeks it will be house broke for life plus leave the kennal door open and when nothings going on dog will be laying in HIS ROOM/kennal
