My Chihuahua/Min Pin keeps lifting up his hind leg. He’s not in pain or anything he just lifts it up sometimes. He does it when he’s running and when he’s just standing. My mother said that that’s just what chihuahuas do and I wasn’t sure. Like I said he’s not in pain but he’s doing it more and more often.
It may be a luxating patella, or possibly a torn cruciate ligament – both common in smaller breeds. A luxoid patella causes sudden and temporary loss of use in the leg when the kneecap slips, usually when the dog is active, but also when not undertaking strenuous activity. In the early stages it doesn’t seem to cause any pain, but will gradually worsen with time. Have a vet see him to provide a proper diagnosis and exact how progressed the condition is if it is present; leg lifting for no reason certainly isn’t a normal Chi-specific behaviour trait.

This is definitely sign of discomfort. Ask the vet, but I don’t think it would be much of help.
Best of luck.

i would have him checked by the vet. it is not unusual for these small dog to have a slipped knee and the vet. can tell you and pop it back in. it may not stay as this is also a hereditary condition.

I’m not sure, though I might have a theory. If he IS a he than it might have something to do with the urge to go to the bathroom, like all male dogs do when they…… I don’t know what to tell you otherwise, my suggestion is that you ask a vet.

Actually, there’s something about Min Pins’ they seem to "skip". I’ve noticed it with lots of the agility dogs around here. It might not hurt, however, to have a vet check him out.

It’s a luxated patella. It is a classic symptom of the knee problem.
