Is Brown Sugar Mixed With Water Good for Chihuahuas?

My grandpa feed our chihuahuas brown sugar mixed water. He said its good for them but it just make them fatter. I ask my dad if we could give my chihiahua some of the sweet water but he said no.

No, dogs are not supposed to have sugar or sugary products. Water is just supposed to be water.

This is bad for a dog both in terms of the calories as well as the sugar, not to mention its teeth. The native and natural dog diet would never contain sugar, and so why would your dog need this now? If in doubt about your dog’s diet, take professional advice. You only need to ask once for a good idea on what should and shouldn’t be fed to your dog for a long happy and health life.

Brown sugar is a sucrose sugar product with a distinctive brown color due to the presence of molasses.

Dog’s do not need sugar in their water (in fact humans don’t either, but this isn’t the place for it.) Brown sugar holds nothing that will benefit a dog nutrition wise, though it will make cavities, and may give the dog diabetes.

If you think your dog is missing something nutrition wise, I’d talk to your vet about vitamins or look into a better dog food. One without a lot of corn, cereal, or things of that nature. The first ingredient should be meat.
