I’ve Heard That Blue Coated Chihuahuas Are Really Rare. How Much Can I Sell a Blue Puppy For?

I’ve heard that blue Chihuahuas are really rare. We are breeding my chihuahua with a another and they both carry the blue gene. If they have blue puppies and the puppies are registered with both the AKC and CKC, how much can I sell them for? I’ve been told $1200. Is that right?

blue chihuahuas are nor rare. I have owned several and have seen many more. Blue is a diluted color in chihuahuas and these dogs can often have the skin disease called alopecia where they sometimes lose most of their hair.

I personally would never pay that much for a dog just based on the color of its coat. Much more important is health, temperament, and titles that the parents have earned. If the parents have no titles, health tests, or temperament tests then I wouldn’t pay any more then $50-$90.

A chi normally has 1-2 puppies. As the breeder you have to buy food and shots and check ups for the puppies till they are sold at 8weeks. What if you chi has to have a c-section. Thats -600$ off your money your makeing. Lets talk shots. Hmm About 1,000$ for shots and check ups. Lets not add the amount of money you have to pay if sometime is wrong with one of the puppies.. where are we.. -1,600$. You also have to buy food for 2 months. About 100$ in milk and dry food. -1,700$. Not to mention all the time and stress it is having puppies. Your chi pups don’t have a very good chance of surviving the first week. So wheres that leave you? Negitive money made. >.< Think before you breed.

CKC as in continental kennel club? CKC is worth crap. All the dogs registered with them are puppy milled crap and AKC rejects for good reason, lots of the breeders who use CKC were thrown out of AKC for forging papers.

    COLOR is NOT rare.

and $1200 is way to high, i would not pay more than $100

$1,200 would be right if your parent dogs are:

    -AKC champions of record
    -All clearances on parents
-Come from champion parents, grandparents, great grandparents
    -Come with full guarentees
-This is considered to be an appropriate breeding between the two dogs based on their pedigrees and type

Color? Oh color? No color disqualification, so the blue (grey) isn’t any more or less valuable to anyone, unless of course they have more money than brain cells.

$100. That includes a donation to get your low quality animal fixed. It has nothing to do with color!!!

People pay more for health, temperament and how typical a dog is of its breed, not for colour. You might be superficial enough to believe that anyone will buy a pup for its colour, but not everyone is as ignorant as you.

It’s worth the amount it’s shots cost and not a penny more.

Just because you have two dogs with certain genes don’t mean that they will produce that type of pup. And as the other have said it takes a lot of money to breed dogs. And mose responsible breeders don’t breed for money it is for betterment of breed.
It sounds like you are looking to make money off of these dogs, please don’t breed then get them fixed.
I have been breding standard show poodles for over 30 years now and never once said that I desired a certain color or certain trait.
Also having a dog that is registered through the CKC is like having a mutt because they would register a rat if you said it was a Chihuahua. I am sorry to be so blunt but I have seen lots of BYBers try to sell dogs and end up taking them to shelter.

Unfortunately Chihuahuas who are said to carry the blue gene have problems when mating. Although the blue gene can be proven through testing, first, second and even third generation Chihuahuas do not pass their blue genes on.

I have not completed my researches into the problems which they have with mating, much of this could be exaggerate. Nevertheless I have established that IF?? a b!tch allows a mating, she will always have problems producing puppies naturally.

Please build the cost of very high veterinary costs into your breeding programme because a cesarean operation will almost always be necessary To protect your b1itch you should also make provision to stay at home with her before she produces and while she is nursing her puppies (if any survive).

If by any remote chance she produces a blue Chihuahua you will have to take into consideration the advertising costs of finding a buyer who can afford the asking price.

No one with a BRAIN is going to pay 1200 for a badly bred chihuahua with CKC papers.

CKC is crap so they might as well be paperless. AKC means NOTHING if the parents aren’t titled and genetically screened.

There is no such thing as a RARE color. You have breed standard accepted and faults.

Your pups will be worth 100-175 at the most. That’s it.

Color is NOT "rare".. blue is less common because its a recessive gene, but its not rare.

Price value isnt based on color.. its based on whether or not the pup is show or pet, and also if the parents are titled and tested.. what bloodlines, if there’s import lines, etc.

Considering that yours are also CKC.. they are not show potential pups.. I highly doubt you’ve shown and titled the parents.. you probably didnt do proper genetic health tests.. these puppies really are not worth more than the cost of the vet care that you put into them.
