Dog bark collars are one of the worst ways to train your dog to not bark. There are many reasons why, but I’m only going to write about a few here. They, for lack of a better term, are torture devices. They don’t really “teach” your dog anything except “act like a dog and get pain because of it”. They are usually misused by people who don’t know the proper way to use them. All in all, they are just horrible.

Think about this, if you had something on your body that shocked you for breathing, something you did as a human, how would you feel. Don’t you think it would kind of mess you up? Of course it would. When you but a dog bark collar on a dog that is exactly what you are doing. It may be news to some, but dogs bark. They bark for various reasons, maybe they hear a car come up, maybe they have to pee, maybe they just want to say “I love you”, regardless of the reason dogs bark. It is in their nature to bark, that’s what they do. So putting a dog bark collar on to stop a dog from barking is like putting a breathing collar on a human to stop him from breathing.

A lot of the time, people will put dog bark collars on and leave them on. All day, all night, all the time. The dog bark collar has 2 fairly large prongs that rest up against the dogs neck, that’s how the shock is given. All day long these prongs are going to wear down your dogs skin and cause sores all along their neck. That is a great way to get an infection. Now, think about if your dog is in pain and does have an infection; how are you going to know that there is something wrong if your dog can’t tell you? It kind of comes full circle doesn’t it?

These reasons are why I say they are torture devices for dogs. The dog bark collar should never be used under any circumstances. Very few people have the proper training to use them and there is absolutely nothing your dog will learn from them. If you don’t believe me, try one on for yourself, make it shock you, and see what you learn. You will learn that they are evil devices, it is a shame that your dog can’t take it off as easily as you can.
